Pet Emergency Care: Be Prepared for the Unexpected

Pets, just like people, can face accidents and injuries that require immediate medical attention. These can include trauma, seizures, breathing difficulties, and other critical conditions.

At Viking Vet Moscow, we use state-of-the-art diagnostics and emergency equipment, supported by an experienced team with over 40 years of combined veterinary expertise. We specialize in stabilizing patients quickly, providing accurate diagnoses, and developing critical care plans to help pets recover with the highest level of safety and comfort.

What Qualifies as an Emergency?

If your pet is exhibiting any of the following symptoms or behaviors, please call or bring them in immediately for evaluation by our emergency vets in Moscow.

Trauma

Pets hit by a vehicle, bitten by another animal, or experiencing a serious fall may not show external wounds, but could be suffering internal damage, broken bones, or shock.

Breathing Difficulties

Labored breathing, excessive panting, or open-mouth breathing in cats can signal airway obstruction, fluid in the lungs, or heart failure. Immediate attention is critical to reversing these issues.

Seizures

A single seizure can be alarming. Multiple seizures or seizures lasting more than a minute are life-threatening and require emergency intervention. If you see even one instance, we strongly recommend an examination for your pet’s lasting safety.

Ingestion of Foreign Objects or Toxins

If your pet ingests chocolate, household cleaners, human medication, or plants like lilies (toxic to cats), symptoms may not appear right away, but fast treatment is critical. Digestive issues such as constant vomiting, diarrhea, or bad gas can also indicate an issue.

Straining to Urinate or Defecate

Straining to urinate or producing no urine at all is an emergency, particularly in male cats. Blockages can quickly lead to kidney failure or rupture.

Unexplained Collapse or Weakness

Sudden collapse, disorientation, or extreme fatigue may be linked to internal bleeding, low blood sugar, cardiac issues, or heatstroke. If your pet appears unusually lethargic, bring them in right away for evaluation and treatment.
